Korean boy band SHINee's first Japanese single has ranked at second place on Japan's weekly Oricon chart.
According to a news article on Oricon's official website, SHINee's Japan debut single "Replay - everything" (translated into "Reply - You are my everything"), which was released in the country on June 22, took the No. 2 spot on the weekly singles chart.
The article also pointed out that over 91,000 copies of the albums were sold during the past week which is the most number of debut albums for a K-pop group to sell. The record had been held by Super Junior who had sold 59,000 copies of their first Japanese single "BONAMANA."
"Replay," which is the Japanese version of SHINee's 2008 hit single in Korea, had also ranked second on Oricon's daily singles chart after selling 50,270 copies on the day of its release.
SHINee's debut in Japan had received much attention even ahead of their debut, being highlighted by Oricon's news earlier this month and for their live performance at the famed Abbey Road Studios in London, United Kingdom which was the showcase for their Japan debut.
The group is currently in the middle of a nationwide fan tour in Japan titled "SHINee JAPAN DEBUT PREMIUM RECEPTION TOUR" which was already held in cities of Fukuoka and Kobe and is taking place in Tokyo today. The group will then set off to performances scheduled in Sapporo on August 7 and Nagoya on August 11.
Composed of members Key, Minho, Jonghyun, Onew and Taemin, SHINee is one of Korea's most popular male groups who made their debut in 2008 under major talenthouse SM Entertainment. They have produced a number of hit songs including "Reply," "Ring Ding Dong" and "LUCIFER."
